I began my teaching career in 2008 in the Waltham Public School system as a substitute teacher. I quickly fell in love with teaching and made the decision to go back to school to obtain my Master of Arts in Teaching from Brandeis University. I passionately believe in the power of our country's public education system, which naturally led me to specialize in public elementary education as that is the foundation of everyone's educational experience.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I was a cinematographer and editor in Connecticut. These are skills that I continue to utilize in the classroom with my students! I have a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in both Communication and Classical Studies as well as a minor in Ancient Greek Language, from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Don't be surprised if your child comes home with new knowledge of English etymology as it relates to Ancient Greek or Latin! Since obtaining my teaching degree, I have taught elementary students in many capacities. I worked as a Reading Specialist and a Title I Specialist, providing remediation to students in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. I have also taught in a gifted and talented program for multiple years, providing project-based enrichment and academic challenges for students who have already mastered grade-level content. I come to Chickering School with a wide variety of experiences to help enrich my students' lives, a relentless curiosity about the world, and a passion to kindle the same fire and wonder in my students. Along with this passion comes a deep and unwavering respect for and belief in every student; a trait which I believe makes for a fun but safe learning environment where all students feel comfortable taking risks and growing as individuals. Outside of teaching I enjoy traveling, photography and reading. And, as my students quickly come to learn, I have an intense love of snow, all things winter, and coffee!
